Environments like chemical plants and laboratories need additional chemical safety precautions. We carry equipment and safety gear designed for handling chemicals, although chemical safety procedures should still continue to be followed.
In such environments as meat processing and petrochemicals, chemical safety boots are needed. Servus makes three specific chemical protective models. The strongest, Insulated Neoprene III, shields against chemicals and resists deterioration from organic chemicals. The work boot also has a V-Wave outsole for additional traction, is waterproof, and has electrical hazard protection. The XTP, or Xtra Traction Performance, is a similar work boot, only it does not have a steel toe and is best used in environments with slick and oily surfaces.
Hands also need protection in chemical environments, and we carry work gloves made from nitrile, butyl, and PVC materials. Nitrile resists cuts and punctures, while butyl is best for resisting gas and water vapors. PVC is ideal for petrochemical, construction, and industrial environments, as it has strong abrasion resistance. In addition, some gloves come insulated for winter or colder environments.
When chemical compounds are ubiquitous, rainwear helps keep the body safe from exposure. River City makes chemical resistant jackets and pants with reinforced seams, chemical resistance, and electrical hazard resistance. These types of garments are best suited for chemical and electrical plants and the cable industry.
Safety glasses and goggles will protect the eyes from chemical splashes and flying objects. Glasses are better for minor chemical splashes, while goggles offer stronger protection. Some can fit over prescription glasses, as well. To protect the entire face, a face shield is best. A face shield should cover from brow to chin and will often attach to hard hats or head gear. For chemical environments, a plastic face shield, possibly with a glass insert, is better than a wire face shield.
Safety cabinets are necessary for storing toxic and hazardous liquid chemicals. All of our safety containers are made by Justrite and are compliant with OSHA and NFPA standards. The containers are made from 18-gauge double walled steel, “spill catcher” galvanized steel shelves, and have self-latching doors and a leak tight bottom sump. The containers are coated with epoxy/polyester powder paint. All have a ten-year warranty. Aside from cans, we carry storage cabinets, oily waste disposal cans, safety funnels, and spill control stations, which hold cleaning supplies for emergency chemical spills.
